Mozilla has released its fifth beta of Firefox 3.6, pushing the final code ship date into early 2010. The decision to release another beta instead of moving on to a release candidate means that users will have to wait a bit longer for the final version.

According to a weekly status meeting, Beta 5 builds are being tested by QA now and are expected to be released on Thursday, unless Mozilla decides to go straight to Release Candidate (RC) first. This decision was made after evaluating the progress of bug fixes in the latest beta release.

The new beta includes nearly 130 fixes from the last beta, which was released in late November. These fixes resolve numerous crash bugs, including a major problem in the Mac edition's TraceMonkey JavaScript rendering engine, as well as other issues with private browsing mode, automatic password retrieval component, and fast startup module.

Firefox 3.6 Beta 5 can be downloaded from Mozilla's website by current testers or anyone interested in trying out the latest version of the browser. Although it is not recommended to use beta software for everyday usage, this release provides an opportunity for users to experience the improvements made since the last beta and provide feedback to help shape the final product.

With the new release date pushed into early 2010, fans of Firefox will have to wait a bit longer for the final version. However, Mozilla's decision to prioritize bug fixing over rushing out a release candidate is a testament to its commitment to delivering high-quality software to its users.
